Transparent apostille pricing, with nothing hidden at checkout
Flat-rate packages for Massachusetts state and federal apostille service. Government fees and return shipping are already included. The price you see is the price you pay.
State apostille from $149.95 • Federal apostille from $199.95 • Free document review on every order
What an apostille costs, explained in plain numbers
Most people researching apostille cost run into the same problem. One company posts a low number, then adds a government fee, a handling fee and a shipping fee at checkout. Another quotes nothing at all and asks you to call. By the time you have a real total, you have lost an afternoon and you still are not sure what you will pay.
We price our service the opposite way. Every package on this page is a flat rate per document. The government fee is already inside the price. Return shipping is already inside the price. Document review, your phone consultation and online tracking cost nothing extra. The number you see is the number you pay.
That clarity matters because an apostille is rarely the only thing on your plate. You are preparing a visa file, closing on property abroad, starting a job overseas or sending a child to study in another country. You need a cost you can budget around today, not a moving target. A flat rate gives you that.
This page lays out two pricing structures. State apostille pricing covers Massachusetts documents authenticated by the Secretary of the Commonwealth, such as birth certificates, marriage certificates, diplomas and notarized records. Federal apostille pricing covers documents authenticated by the U.S. Department of State, with the FBI background report as the most common example. The two follow separate government processes, so they carry separate prices and timelines. Read the section that fits your document, or read both if your order needs each.
Every price below is per document. If your order includes several documents, tell us during the free consultation and we will give you a combined quote before you commit. You never pay until you have a written total and a clear plan. If you want to see the steps behind each order first, our how it works guide walks through the full process.

Federal apostille pricing
For documents authenticated by the U.S. Department of State, including FBI background reports, federal court records and documents issued by United States agencies.
A federal apostille is different work. An FBI background report, a federal court document or a record from a United States agency is not authenticated in Massachusetts at all. It goes to the U.S. Department of State Office of Authentications in Washington, D.C. That office sets its own processing schedule, and it runs slower than the Massachusetts state office because it handles documents from every state in the country.
Federal pricing reflects the longer government queue, the coordination involved and the shipping to and from Washington. The $20 government application fee per apostille is included in every federal package below, the same as our state pricing. What changes between the three federal tiers is how fast your document reaches the State Department and how it travels back to you.

Speed is the only thing that changes
Whether you choose Economy or Rush, state or federal, every order includes the same four things. The care behind your document does not change with the price.
Free document review
Before your document goes near a government office, an apostille specialist checks it. We confirm the copy is the correct certified version, that any required notary work is complete and worded properly and that the document matches what your destination country expects. This step is where most do-it-yourself attempts fail. Catching a problem in our office costs you an email. Catching it at the state office costs you weeks.
A 10-minute phone consultation
You speak with a person who handles apostilles every day. You tell them the document and the destination country, and they confirm the correct path, a realistic timeline and whether you need a notary or a translation. There is no charge and no obligation. Many clients use this call to avoid ordering the wrong service level.
Online case tracking
Once we receive your documents, you follow your order online through review, authentication and shipping. You always know where your document stands without having to call and ask. You also have a single point of contact for any question along the way.
Government fee
The fee the government charges to issue an apostille is built into every price on this page. State apostille fees vary by state and run from about $3 to $20 per document. The federal apostille fee is $20 per apostille. Whichever fee applies to your document, it is already inside your flat rate. You will not see it added as a separate line later.
Return shipping is included, and it scales with your package
Your finished apostille has to get back to you safely. We do not treat return shipping as a surprise line item.
Return shipping is inside every price, and the shipping method matches the speed of the package you choose. There is no reason to authenticate a document quickly and then let it sit in slow mail on the way home.
Economy returns by First Class Mail
Economy service returns your document by First Class Mail. This is reliable and economical, and it suits clients who chose Economy because their timeline is open. If your deadline is more than a month away, First Class return keeps your total cost down without putting your document at risk.
Express returns by Priority Mail
Express service returns your document by Priority Mail. Priority Mail moves faster than First Class and includes tracking, which fits the tighter window Express clients usually work within. You can watch the package travel and plan around its arrival.
Rush returns by FedEx
Rush service returns your document by FedEx. FedEx gives you the fastest transit and detailed tracking, so a document that was authenticated quickly does not lose days on the way back. When you pay for speed, the return leg keeps that speed.
International delivery
If you need your finished document sent to an address outside the United States, tell us during the consultation. Overseas delivery is available, and we confirm any difference in cost before you order. For clients living abroad who need a Massachusetts or federal document, the entire process works by mail, so you never have to travel back to the United States to handle it.
Notary and translation, priced for your order
Some orders need more than an apostille. We provide the two most common additions in-house, so you are not chasing a separate notary or translation company while your deadline runs.
Notary public service
Documents that are not signed by a public official have to be notarized before the state can authenticate them. A power of attorney, a single status affidavit, a parental consent letter and a company resolution all fall into this group. We notarize these in our Tewksbury office and coordinate the signing with the authentication so it counts as one step instead of two errands.
Priced per document • quoted during your free consultation
Certified translation
Many destination countries require a certified, notarized translation of your document, the apostille or both. USCIS also requires certified English translations of foreign-language documents in immigration filings. We translate and certify documents in-house and match the translation to the authentication so the finished file is accepted the first time.
Priced per document • quoted during your free consultation
Both add-on services are priced per document, because cost depends on the document type, length and language. We confirm the exact figure during your free consultation, before you commit. Your final total is always complete, with no gap between what you expected and what you pay. See all of our apostille, notary and translation services.
Why we use flat-rate pricing
The apostille industry has a reputation for vague pricing, and it is earned. We built our pricing to work the other way.
Search for apostille cost and you will find services that advertise a low base rate, then stack on a government fee, a handling fee, a per-page fee and a shipping fee. The advertised number and the final number are not close. We rejected that model because it works against the client.
When you are authenticating a document for a visa or a residency file, you are usually managing a budget and a deadline at the same time. A price that changes at checkout breaks both. So our pricing follows three rules.
One price per document
The figure on the card is the figure you pay for that document at that service level. The government fee and return shipping are already inside it. You do not need a calculator to work out your real cost. You read the card, and that is the number.
No charge for the things that protect you
Document review, the phone consultation and online tracking are part of the service, not upgrades. We will not charge you to check your own document before we risk sending it to a government office. The review is what keeps your document from being rejected, so it belongs in every package at no extra cost.
Anything variable is quoted in writing first
Additional documents, notarization and translation depend on your specific order, so we give you an exact written total during the consultation. You approve that total before you pay. There is no point in the process where a new fee appears after you have committed.
This approach costs us the occasional sale to a service with a lower headline price. We accept that. A client who understands the full cost on day one is a client who is not frustrated on day ten. Clear pricing is part of doing this work properly, and it is one reason individuals, law firms and companies across Massachusetts come back to us. If you want to know more about the team behind the service, read about our agency.
Why state and federal apostilles are priced differently
Clients often ask why a federal apostille costs more than a state apostille at the same service level. The answer is simple.
They are two different government processes, and we price each for the work it actually takes.
A Massachusetts state apostille goes to the Secretary of the Commonwealth
That office is in Boston, close to our Tewksbury location, and its processing is relatively predictable. We present documents efficiently, and for Rush orders we move quickly because the office is nearby. The shorter distance and steadier queue keep state pricing lower.
A federal apostille goes to the U.S. Department of State
The Office of Authentications in Washington, D.C. handles documents from every state in the country, so the queue is longer and the standard government timeline runs several weeks. Reaching it also means shipping documents to Washington and back, which adds transit time and cost. Our federal Rush option exists to compress that. On a federal Rush order, we hand deliver the application to the government office rather than mailing it, which removes days of transit at each end.
The price gap is work, not markup
The difference between state and federal pricing reflects a longer government queue, a document that has to physically travel to and from Washington and, on Rush orders, the cost of delivering the application in person. When your order includes both a state and a federal document, which is common for visa files that pair a diploma with an FBI background report, we run the two tracks at the same time and give you one combined quote. You deal with one team and one invoice, not two government systems.
Which service level should you choose
The right package depends on one thing more than any other: your real deadline.
Not the date you would like the document back, but the date the receiving office, embassy or employer actually needs it. Work backward from that date, then pick the package that lands your document in time with a little room to spare.
Choose Economy if your timeline is open
If your visa interview, school enrollment or closing date is more than a month away, Economy gives you the same careful service at the lowest price. Most clients who plan ahead use it. There is no benefit to paying for speed you do not need.
Choose Express if you have a firm deadline a few weeks out
Express is our most popular package for a reason. It moves your document faster, returns it by tracked mail and still costs far less than Rush. For the majority of clients with a normal amount of lead time, Express is the sensible middle. It is the package most people should start with.
Choose Rush if your deadline is days away
Rush exists for the visa appointment next week or the contract that has to be signed abroad. It is the fastest option we offer, and on federal orders it includes hand delivery to the government office. Rush carries the highest price because it takes the most direct effort, but for a true emergency it is the difference between making your deadline and missing it.
If you are not sure, that is what the free consultation is for. Tell us the document and the date, and we will tell you honestly which package fits. We would rather put you in Economy and save you money than sell you a Rush order you did not need.
A plain note on timelines and acceptance
We want every client to order with a clear, accurate picture, so two points deserve plain language.
Processing time depends on government volume
The turnaround ranges on this page reflect our handling plus typical government processing. The state and federal offices set their own pace, and their queues rise and fall with volume. We give you a realistic timeline for your specific document during the consultation, and we keep you updated if a government office slows down.
Final acceptance is the government’s decision
We prepare your document carefully and submit it correctly, which is why our rejection rate is low. We cannot, however, guarantee the final decision of a state or federal authority, and no honest apostille service can. What we guarantee is correct preparation, submission to the right office and clear communication the whole way through your order.
Apostille pricing questions, answered
Clear answers to the cost questions clients ask most before they order.
How much does an apostille cost in Massachusetts?
Our Massachusetts state apostille service starts at $149.95 per document for Economy, $199.95 for Express and $385.95 for Rush. Each price is a flat rate that includes the government fee and return shipping. Federal apostille service starts at $199.95 per document. The price you see on the card is the price you pay, with no fees added at checkout.
Are government fees included in your prices?
Yes. State apostille fees vary by state and run from about $3 to $20 per document. The federal apostille fee is $20 per apostille. Whichever fee applies to your document, it is built into your flat rate. We do not advertise a low base rate and then add the government fee later. Your flat rate covers our service and the government fee together.
Is the price per document or per order?
Every price is per document. If your order includes several documents, for example a birth certificate and a marriage certificate, each one is authenticated separately and priced separately. Tell us how many documents you have during the free consultation, and we will send a combined written quote before you commit to anything.
How much does a federal apostille cost?
Federal apostille service costs $199.95 per document for Economy, $299.95 for Express and $395.95 for Rush. Federal documents, such as FBI background reports, are authenticated by the U.S. Department of State rather than the Massachusetts state office. The $20 government fee is included in every federal package.
Why does a federal apostille cost more than a state apostille?
A federal apostille goes to the U.S. Department of State in Washington, D.C., which handles documents from every state and runs a longer queue than the Massachusetts office. Federal pricing reflects that longer queue, the shipping to and from Washington and, on Rush orders, the cost of hand delivering the application to the government office. It is a difference in work, not a markup.
Do you charge for the document review and consultation?
No. The document review, the 10-minute phone consultation and online case tracking are included with every package at no extra cost. The review is what protects your document from rejection, so it belongs in every order. You only pay the flat package price for your chosen service level.
How much does notarization or certified translation cost?
Notary public service and certified translation are priced per document, because the cost depends on the document type, length and language. We provide both in-house and confirm the exact figure during your free consultation, before you commit. That keeps your final total complete and accurate.
When do I pay?
You pay after the consultation, once we have reviewed your document and sent you a written plan with a flat-rate total. The application and the consultation are free. You never pay before you know the full cost and the realistic timeline for your specific document.
