Wyoming Vital Records Apostille: Mail, Check and Original Signatures
A Wyoming vital records apostille comes from the Secretary of State in Cheyenne for $20 per document. A Wyoming official signs the certificate first, and every signature must be original. Mail is the preferred route, in-person visits need an appointment, and the office does not publish a processing time.

A small office, a short list of rules
Wyoming is a quiet apostille office, and that helps. The Secretary of State says a document must be certified by a Wyoming official such as a county clerk or deputy, the State Registrar or deputy, or the State Examiner, or acknowledged before a Wyoming notary. All signatures must be original. The apostille fee is $20 per document.
The catch is that several details are missing from the pages we read. Copy fees for marriage, death and divorce are not posted. Neither is a processing time. Those are marked “confirm with the office” below. Check the destination on the HCCH status table too, because a non-Hague country needs an embassy or consulate step after Cheyenne.

Wyoming lets few people order, and that shapes your plan
Picture a teacher born in Casper and now working in Seville. She needs her parents’ marriage certificate and her father’s death certificate apostilled for a Spanish family file. In many states anyone can order such records. Wyoming does not. The Vital Records Services order page says a death certificate goes to an immediate family member, a lawyer for the family, or an entity paying a death benefit, and becomes public after 50 years. Immediate family means a parent, a spouse or a child over 18.
Marriage and divorce certificates can be ordered by either spouse or a lawyer for either spouse, and become public after 50 years. Birth certificates go to the registrant, either parent, a legal guardian or a lawyer, and become public after 100 years. If you are not on that list, ask the office who can order for you before you pay anyone.
In Wyoming the first question is not who apostilles it. It is who may ask for it.

The Department of Health reports hours of Monday to Thursday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Friday by appointment at 307-777-7591. Its address is the Hathaway Building, 2300 Capitol Avenue, Cheyenne, WY 82002. Online ordering is available through the state portal. See the order page and the Vital Records FAQ.
The Secretary of State in Cheyenne
The Secretary of State’s authentication page and document requirements page set the fee at $20 per apostille. Make the check or money order payable to the Wyoming Secretary of State. Send it with the request form, the original document and a prepaid return envelope or label. The mailing address is Herschler Building East, 122 W 25th St, Suites 100 and 101, Cheyenne, WY 82002-0020.
In-person service is by appointment only. Call 307-777-7370 or email Apostilles@wyo.gov. The office says mail is preferred. Our own fee check also records that payment cannot be made by credit card, so an overseas customer needs a plan for a US check or money order.
No e-apostille is mentioned. Wyoming sits on Mountain time, usually eight hours behind Spain, so a call to Cheyenne during its morning arrives in your evening. The office FAQ is worth reading before you send anything.

Everything runs through Cheyenne
A Wyoming file when you are eight time zones away
You do not have to be in Cheyenne. You do have to hold the original and pay with a US instrument. Where Wyoming allows an authorized third party to order, we can help obtain the copy, and we confirm that in the free review.
- 1
Check who may order
Use the list above. If you are outside it, ask Vital Records Services at 307-777-7591 who can order for you.
- 2
Request the certified copy
Order online or by mail from Vital Records Services. Ask the office whether your copy is an abstract or a full copy, and which one the receiving country wants.
- 3
Confirm the fee by phone
The pages we read do not list copy fees for marriage, death or divorce. Call or email wdh.vss@wyo.gov before you send payment.
- 4
Prepare the apostille packet
Include the request form, the original, a check or money order for $20 per apostille, and a prepaid return envelope or label.
- 5
Mail it to Cheyenne
Use a trackable courier. In-person visits are by appointment only, which seldom suits someone abroad.
- 6
Ship abroad with tracking
Several business days each way is normal. Ask for a signature on delivery and track every leg.
Send the record, the year and the country through the application form or call (978) 424-4629, Monday to Friday, 10am to 5pm Eastern.
Where a Wyoming file stalls
Someone not on the eligibility list
Death and marriage records are closed for 50 years, and births for 100. An order from the wrong person is refused.
A photocopy or scan
The Secretary of State requires all signatures to be original. A copy of a copy fails.
A card or foreign cheque
The office takes a check or money order to the Wyoming Secretary of State. Credit cards are not accepted.
A signer outside the list
The accepted certifiers are Wyoming officials such as county clerks, the State Registrar and deputies, or the State Examiner.
An abstract when the full record is needed
The standard birth copy is an abstract. Ask the receiving authority whether it will accept that or wants a full copy.
No prepaid return label
The request must include a prepaid return envelope or label. Without one, the finished apostille has no way back to you.
Spain and Colombia
Spain. Spain is a Hague party. On its student visa page the Spanish consulate in Boston says an FBI background check is needed only when the stay exceeds 180 days and not under age 18. Marriage and other family documents need an apostille, and the Boston non-lucrative visa page also wants them issued within the last 12 months. Your own consulate may differ. Read our Spain guide for the sequence.
Colombia. Colombia is a Hague party, listed on the HCCH status table. We could not read its visa pages, so we do not state document rules, age limits or translation requirements. Ask the Colombian consulate or the receiving office. Our moving-abroad checklist helps you plan the order.
We provide ATA certified translations that get notarized. We are not a sworn translator and we do not arrange sworn translations. When a Spanish or Colombian office asks for a sworn translation, hire a sworn translator there and we send the apostilled set to that person.
What we do, and what it costs
We are a private document preparation and courier service in Tewksbury, Massachusetts, in the Boston area, and we have worked since 2007. On a Wyoming file we do the free document review, confirm who may order, prepare the packet with a US check, send it to Cheyenne and ship the finished set abroad. You can follow it in ApostilleDesk.
Our published prices are for Massachusetts: Economy $149.95, Express $199.95, Rush $385.95 per document, including the state fee and return postage. Wyoming is quoted on its own. After the review we send one flat rate before you pay. See pricing and how it works.
We are not affiliated with any state office, school or consulate. Hablamos Español.
Frequently asked questions
How do I get a Wyoming record apostilled from abroad?
Order a certified copy from Vital Records Services if you are an eligible requester, then mail the original, the request form, a $20 check or money order per apostille and a prepaid return label to the Secretary of State in Cheyenne. The state prefers mail, so a courier handles both legs.
How much does a Wyoming apostille cost?
The Secretary of State charges $20 per apostille. Payment is by check or money order made out to the Wyoming Secretary of State. Copy fees for marriage, death and divorce certificates are not listed on the pages we read, so confirm them with Vital Records Services before you send any payment.
How long does a Wyoming apostille take?
The Secretary of State does not publish a processing time on the pages we read. Mail is the preferred route, and in-person service is by appointment only. Ask the office for the current turnaround and add courier days each way when you plan around a deadline abroad.
Who may order a Wyoming death certificate?
An immediate family member, meaning a parent, spouse or child over 18, a lawyer for the family, or an entity paying a policy or death benefit. Death records become public after 50 years. If you are outside that group, ask the office who can order on your behalf.
Does Wyoming accept credit cards for the apostille fee?
No. Our fee check records that the Secretary of State takes a check or money order, or cash in person. That is awkward from abroad. We can include the state fee in a flat-rate quote after the free document review, so you do not need a US bank account.
Which Wyoming officials can certify a document for an apostille?
The Secretary of State lists a county clerk or deputy, the State Registrar or deputy, the State Examiner, or a Wyoming notary for documents that may be acknowledged. Signatures must be original. For vital records, the certificate normally comes from the State Registrar at Vital Records Services.
Is an abstract accepted for a Wyoming birth certificate apostille?
The standard birth copy is an abstract. Whether the receiving country accepts an abstract depends on that country, not on Wyoming. Ask the receiving authority and ask Vital Records Services whether a fuller copy is available before ordering. Confirm with the office rather than assume.
